The master plan converts the wasteland of a former industrial area and railway yard next to the railway station of Bruges into a new city quarter. The new district was designed like a green finger reaching in from the landscape towards the very centre, based on a simple grid layout. The grid can absorb vital urban functions in the future but also existing elements such as a large above ground multi-storey car park. Only the form of the empty urban space has been fixed; the built components follow in due course and can grow in the envelopes stipulated for the lots.
