The project uses the special condition of the Périphérique Ring Road at Porte de la Villette to develop a strong landmark for motorists at this northern gate to Paris. The 600 room hotel is shaped as a triangular, rounded off building volume that hovers at the level of the Périphérique. This volume sits on a lower plinth building that slides under the ring road viaduct. Inside this plinth there is a shopping mall and an underground parking. From each hotel window one giant letter is hung. Together they form a poem that was specially written for the project by the French novelist Olivier Rolin and evocates the diverse character of Paris.
