The BraziliŽ shopping centre is a conversion of an old harbour store for cacao beans at the Oostelijke Handelskade in Amsterdam. The store had an interesting cast-iron steel structure. First the original 100 year old and 200 meter long structure was dismantled and transported off site to undergo corrosion treatment. Meanwhile the underground parking was made. On top of it, the original building was later reassembled. Finally, the shed building was finished as a big market hall for shopping. By recycling the old structure rather than making a complete new building, the project succeeded too keep its harbour atmosphere.
