The project uses the special condition of the Périphérique at Porte de la Villette to develop a strong landmark for motorists along the Ring road at this Northern gate to Paris. The 600 room hotel is shaped as a triangular, rounded off building volume that hovers at the level of the Périphérique. This volume sits on a lower plinth building that slides under the ring road viaduct. Inside this plinth there is a shopping mall and an underground parking. From each hotel window one giant letter is hung. Together they form a poem that evocates the multiple charachter of Paris, specially written for the project by the French novelist Olivier Rolin.
