The team of Neutelings Riedijk Architects & Kirkegaard Associates have been slected out of sixteen international teams to make a design for the International Competition for the “Cultuurforum Spui” in The Hague. In this project, the Dutch Dance Theatre, The Residentie Ochestra and the Royal Music Conservatory will be joined together in one single building complex of 40.000 m2 with Theatre, Concert Hall and Rehearsal facilities. The public can visit the new MAS / Museum Aan de Stroom building designed by Neutelings Riedijk Architects during one week. Guided tours will be organized from May 22nd till May 26th. Reservation is compulsory. After that the MAS will be closed for another year to move the collection and set up the exhibitions. Official opening is foreseen in Spring 2011. Neutelings Riedijk Architects has won second prize in the International Competition for the New Tchaikovsky Opera and Ballet Theatre in Perm, Russia. The first prize was won by David Chipperfield from London.

Groundbreaking of the “Eemhuis” in Amersfoort, designed by Neutelings Riedijk Architects, will start this summer after it has been successfully tendered this month. The Eemhuis is a cultural center commissioned by the city of Amersfoort that houses the city library, the regional archive, an arts school and a concert hall for pop-music. (see project)

The construction of the MAS, the new Museum of Antwerp, designed by Neutelings Riedijk Architects, is finished and has been formally delivered to the client, the City of Antwerp. The public opening of the Museum is foreseen in May 2011. In the coming year the museum will move its collection to the new building and install the exhibitions. Neutelings Riedijk Architects have presented their scheme to the jury of the international competition for the Antwerp Control Centre. This is a new traffic control tower for the Port of Antwerp, Belgium. The decision by the jury is expected in March.

Neutelings Riedijk Architects has won the competition for a new multifunctional building in the heart of the City of Arnhem. The building will house nine cultural institutions from Arnhem among which the city library and the archives. The vision presented by Neutelings Riedijk Architects introduces the “Kennisberg”, a building in which the public space continues as a street within the building. The street takes visitors through all six layers of the entire building and will lead them past attractive squares and public spaces on all levels of the building. The “Kennisberg” will be used for a broad range of activities like performances, exhibitions and debates but will also offer quiet areas for reading and research. On the roof top visitors can enjoy an impressive view over the city and the river that defines the southern city limits.

The Final design of the new opera and concert hall for Ljubljana, Slovenia has been submitted by Neutelings Riedijk Architects. On top of the 1500 seat opera and concert hall are two 73 meter high twin towers that house a five star hotel. The 100.000 square meter project further consists of offices, apartments and an underground parking garage for 800 cars. Groundbreaking is expected by the beginning of 2010. The first of 3185 metal hands was officially mounted on the façade of the MAS museum in Antwerp by Mrs Dora Janssen. She is the donator of an important pre-Columbian collection that will form part of the permanent museum exhibition. The cast aluminium hands form an ornamentation of the museum façade that refers to the famous Antwerp city logo. The general public can obtain a hand for 1000 euro, as part of the fund-raising campaign. The 60 meter high Museum tower is expected to be completed by fall 2009 and will be opened to the public by fall 2010. The Walter Bos Complex in Apeldoorn, which houses the Dutch Central Tax Office as well as the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision in Hilversum are the selected projects. This state prize is awarded each year for excellence in commissioning work in architecture, urban design, landscape architecture, infrastructure and physical planning. The construction work of the tower for the Museum Aan de Stroom (MAS) in Antwerp, Belgium, reached its highest point at 63 metres. The finishing and cladding of the building has already started and completion of the building is expected by fall of 2009. The museum itself will be open for the public in fall 2010. Michiel Riedijk will give a lecture in San Sebastian, Spain this weekend. Tabakalera, the old tobacco factory, will be the setting and subject of discussion in a series of debates revolving around new architectures for culture. A call for tenders for the renovation of Tabakalera is about to be launched. With this in mind, the seminars will explore how a factory can be converted to a space dedicated to promoting culture. Today The Museum of City History in Antwerp (MAS) is launching their campaign for the so called “MAS hands”. The façade of the new Museum of City History in Antwerp will be cladded with handcleft Indian sandstone in panels in 4 different shades. On these plates cast aluminium hands will be installed, which will twinkle like stars on the façade. People who want to lend the museum a helping hand can do so by symbolically buying one of the 3185 MAS hands. (go to MAS website) .

Neutelings Riedijk Architects today signed the contract for the design of the new Opera and Concert Hall complex in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. The new Opera and Concert Hall will have 1600 seats and forms part of a building complex of 75 meters height in the centre of Ljubljana. The 100.000 m2 complex also has a five star hotel, offices, apartments, retail spaces, restaurants and party rooms, as well as an underground parking of 800 places. The investment amounts up to 150 million euro.
Neutelings Riedijk Architects was the winner of the international architectural competition for this project in 2004. Meanwhile, the design has been approved by the city and the investor. Groundbreaking is expected in 2010, opening in 2013. (see project)

Over its 126-year history, the museum has grown from a single building to a complex of seven individual, interconnected structures. Neutelings Riedijk Architects will work with the Cincinnati Art Museum to develop a master architectural design that will integrate the disparate structures into a unified, cohesive whole and will combine a thoughtful and liberating reuse of the Museum’s existing spaces with an innovative expansion. Exhibition in the Sara Lee Building in Amersfoort on the Eemplein, a new central development in the city of Amersfoort, that includes the"Eemhuis" by Neutelings Riedijk Architects. The project consists of a commuter's parking building for 700 cars, new canopies for the railway platforms, a pedestrian bridge and a renovation of the existing railway station with new retail surfaces and passengers services.

The Dutch Deputy Minister of Culture, Medy van der Laan, will open the National Day of Architecture in Hilversum on June 23rd with a visit of the Nederlands Institute for Sound and Vision in Hilversum, a building by Neutelings Riedijk Architects that is still under construction. During the weekend, also two other recent buildings are open for public visits: the completed phase one of the Walter Bos Complex in Apeldoorn, as well as the Shipping and Transport College in Rotterdam that opened last year. The archeological excavation at the building site of the Museum Aan de Stroom in Antwerp is open for the public during the 'Wintervuur' event. The 16th century Hansahuis once occupied this location, but was destroyed by a fire in 1893. Its foundations can now be visited before the construction of the new Museum will start.
